Our Story

Eric Chester spent the beginning of his career as a teacher and coach, preparing young people for the challenges they would face in their futures. He became a teen motivational speaker, and spoke to more than 2 million students. As he met these incredible young people, he began to notice that the young people entering the workforce had a number of different qualities than young Americans once did. So, Eric began speaking to companies, sharing these differences with them – and helping them find solutions to some of the problems that came with this new territory.

In the course of meetings with organizations with scope from small business owners to Fortune 500 Companies, one complaint about the new generation kept coming up again and again: Young people today simply don’t have work ethic.

Eric realized that he could give back to both communities – the young people and the companies – if he found a solution to this problem, and in that moment The A Game was born. Through years of work, Chester articulated the Seven Fundamental Workplace Values, wrote the book Bring Your A Game to Work, and began developing the A Game curriculum with the help of Denver-area educators.

In 2009, The A Game initiative moved into high gear by bringing President Matt Smith on board. In short time, we completed development of the A Game curriculum, designed the levels of A Game Certification, and built an online curriculum for that certification process.

As we grow and include more and more businesses and educators, we hope you’ll join us to become a part of the story of how we Rebuild America’s Work Ethic… One teen at a time.
